"I'm supporting Proposal 1 in memory of my daughter"

My darling daughter, Caprice, lost her battle against cancer this July. She graduated from college in December, was diagnosed with T cell lymphoma in March, and four months later her suffering was over.

Three years ago, my 72-year-old mother, Phyllis O’Grady, lost her battle against endometrial cancer.

It is heart-wrenching to watch our loved ones suffer. As caretakers, we yearn to do everything in our power to stop their pain and increase their odds of recovery.

Cancer patients develop an aversion to food. Chemotherapy decreases their appetites, causes nausea, and weakens their immune systems. It is a catch-22. Cancer sufferers need nourishment, yet eating becomes an ordeal.

Marijuana, unlike narcotics and other medications, has minimal side effects and major benefits. It increases appetites, reduces nausea, eases muscle pain, reduces stress, and allows patients to get much-needed rest and relief from their symptoms. It also is non-addictive.

I wish my daughter and my mother would have had legal access to this option. Our loved ones deserve all the comfort and compassion we can provide throughout their very difficult — and very painful — journeys.

Dear Robin, I am so sorry

Dear Robin,

I am so sorry that you lost your beautiful daughter!!! The story made me cry. I can't imagine how it must feel. Thank you for sharing your story and for posting the picture of your beautiful daughter. She is now an angel in Heaven watching over us all.

Love, Elena Stan.

Robin, Sorry to hear of your

Robin,

Sorry to hear of your losses.

I know also if it weren't for the fact that Marijuana was illegal my Mother and Grandmother would have both benefited from it's legal use.

I really do see the big picture and what a scam this law is......Hmmm, let me see Doctor, I can have Oxycontin Morphine and Vicodin, but you can't tell me to smoke/eat a all natural organically grown weed? Makes no sense.

Robin, I'm truly sorry to

Robin,

I'm truly sorry to hear about your Mother and Daughter. It must have been extremely painful to see your own Daughter go through all that at such a young age.

It's stories like this that make me fight so hard for this issue. My Father died of brain cancer when I was only ten years old. That was 12 years ago, when the medical use of marijuana was just slightly reaching the mainstream again. So he was not fortunate enough to be able to use it during his fight.

But I know for a fact his battle would have been a lot easier for him with the help of cannabis. So now I must do all I can to allow others who are suffering to have the choice to use this wonder drug.

My Mother currently suffers from M.S. and would really benefit from the use of cannabis as well.

And I'm not going to stop fighting until she has her medicine.

So thank you Robin, for sharing your story. God Bless.

VOTE YES ON PROPOSAL 1

My 24 year old son developed

My 24 year old son developed a rare condition, insulin neuritis, after being diagnosised with Type 1 diabetes. He was in agony for months, was bedridden and had a terrible time eating. At 6"3" he weighed just 142 lbs. He was incredibly depressed and anxious that he would never recover. The doctors were happy to stuff him with Viacodin which caused him to be hospitalized when his entire digestive system shut down with gastroparesis from the constipative side effects. A doctor quietly admitted to me while he was hospitalized that though he could not condone marijuana use, he was aware of many people who had found comfort measures in the drug. Marijuana was a god send to my son. Not only did it relive the constant pain, it relived the anxiety and stimulated his appetite. Imagine my horror when I learned he was arrested in his apartment in Marquette because a neighbor smelled the smoke. The police had to wait for him to get his cane to take him away. The ensuing court case cost him money, embarrassment and more importantly, almost cost him his teaching license because he had a drug conviction.

I consider myself and him lucky though, Robin. We knew he would get better someday. I can only imagine the sadness you must feel at losing your lovely daughter. Caregivers should not have to sneak around to do what is best for a suffering loved one. This is a wonderful testament to your daughter that you would go public with your story. You have my sympathy.

Absolutely a disgrace!!!

Absolutely a disgrace!!! That's why the judges are not FOR the use of medical marijuana, because even the patients seem to be good contributors to fines and court costs. Unbelievable!!! This proposal HAS to make it. I am so sorry that your son had to go through that!!! And about the neighbors, were they stupid or just evil? Didn't they figure out that your son was smoking marijuana because he was sick? Some people's ignorance and anger are just unvbelievable. I hope that your son is feeling better now.
